Just wondered whether anyone else notices the difference in taste between wines they may have drunk overseas and the same wines here? Because I do....
Back home in the UK I gave up on new-world wines [Australia/New Zealand] a while back because of the fact they gave me a terrible headache and had a chemically aftertaste. Caused, in my opinion, by preservatives added to help them travel across the other side of the world. So I went back to French and Spanish wines predominantly.
Here in Japan I went out to buy some wine and found two of my favourites - a Red Rioja called Sancho De Toro and a white Spanish called Vina Sol, both by the Torres winery. Both gave me a headache and tasted different to when I drank them [a lot] back in the UK.
Both of them had importers labels on the back for Japan and I think have had preservatives added.

I like Patrice Julien.
I have a lot of books of him.
I have not tried wine in this book yet though this book is read.
I want to try it some time.

I am recently addicted to this Spanish wine. The grand reserva is even better. -
Lodi, CA has some of the best zinfandels I've tasted.

I had a nice 2004 Wyndham Estate Bin555 Shiraz today ... Great wine, but didnt serve it's purpose today ... So I found a cheaper Espiritu de Chile to achieve the desired effect .......

40,000 bottles of Beaujolais Nouveau arrived in Japan on the 9th of November from Paris for the wine-lovers to gather in bars and restaurants and enjoy the fresh race of fruity wine at its annual international event: Beaujolais Nouveau Day. The French Law allows this wine to be purchased only after the 3rd Thursday of November that was yesterday. Beaujolais Festival was held in Japan to celebrate this day with the swimming pools, fuelled with wine!

Am I the only one who is drinking these days???!
At 1,780 yen I thought this was an excellent wine.
Robust, slightly oaky but balanced and goes down easy.
