    Hello!

I live in Maryland in the USA and have just graduated a 4 year university with a Bachelor's in graphic design. It has always been a dream of mine to work as a graphic/web designer anywhere in Japan. I have been studying Japanese for almost 5 years and it's currently at Conversational level. Im not sure how I can get a job in Japan or what qualifications I should have. How did any of you get to work over there in design? I heard it was next to impossible to get a job outside of teaching english unless your japanese is excellent like business level...I am planning to visit Japan again this Sept and wasn't sure if there was anything I could do.

    .... Any tips?

Hello everyone. I am teaching english here, but in another life I was a product designer. I want to manufacture some furniture (bent ply based stuff), and I have NO idea where to start.

Does anyone know a good cabinet maker / furniture craftsman around Tokyo, or where there might be one?

  • AlfieGoodrich says: Purinto Gokko machine
I have a pal who wants me to source one of these for her. Anyone know where I can get one in Tokyo?

Just for those of you who dont know what I am taking about:

Gocco (プリントゴッコ, Purinto Gokko, "Print Gocco") is a self-contained compact color printing system invented in 1977 by Noboru Hayama.

Using flash bulbs similar to those found in old cameras, an original image is thermally imprinted on a master screen.

The name "print gocco" is derived from the Japanese word and concept gokko (ごっこ, gokko), loosely translated as a type of make-believe play used to learn common rules and knowledge.

In December 2005, Gocco’s parent company, Riso Kagaku Corporation, announced it would end production of the Gocco system due to low sales in Japan. An Internet campaign was started to find a new home for the product.

I am a designer from the Netherlands, and I wanna shoot an idea your way, see what you guys think.

Whenever I'm in a foreign country, I always go to the magazine stands and try to find magazines with a fresh graphic style that I don't find at home. It doesn't really matter what the magazine is about, or that I can't read the text, I "read" these magazines for the design and the look&feel. I use them to get inspired, and to see how another culture gives shape to certain ideas and styles.

I was thinking if it wouldn't be cool to create a snail-mail "pen pal" network, where you can request foreign magazines from one of the members, and send magazines from your country back.

I'd love to see some tattoo, music, sports, graffiti, art magazines from your country!
